Born and raised in South Africa (1964 – 1978) then emigrated with my family to Datchet in Berkshire, England, a small village west of London’s Heathrow Airport. Finished my O and A levels at Slough Grammar School, which was not the happiest of times, being a teenager and adjusting to a very different culture. Did a business studies degree in Portsmouth at the polytechnic, which was better as I met girls and made some good friends. Worked as a money dealer for the Industrial Bank of Japan, London for four years, then went travelling extensively (Southern Africa, India and Nepal), teaching English as a foreign language in Slovakia. Returned to South Africa in September 1994. The next 10 years were spent getting married, working in adult basic education, advertising and banking, before we started a family. Then at 40 I finally figured out what I wanted to do and went back to university to become a psychologist.
I opened my practice in November 2008 (44 years old). I have 14 years’ experience in the profession and, after a much needed 3 months’ sabbatical, I have just opened my new practice at Centre for Holistic Health, Fourways, Gauteng. I see how dominated we all are by cultural conditioning, and that it takes something like a prison break (see the movie Shawshank Redemption) to find our true path in life, with many a fall-down in the process. I think the real work is soul work – nurturing our natures and reconnecting with our true selves, which are lost early in the face of overwhelming social circumstances and pressures. My work now is to help clients learn to do the work, thus liberating themselves through their pain, instead of getting stuck in endless suffering. This work happens at a body, heart, mind and spirit level. It’s practical and proven to be effective. If you would like more information please give me a call, psychologist in Fourways.
