The definition of trust is ‘the firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something’. The value of trust is much like the value of a currency. Right now, the Russian Ruble is relatively strong in value which seems strange if not fickle, given that Russia is at war with Ukraine, and has acquired pariah status in many parts of the world. Without going into finances or politics, I would suggest that trust is an equally strange and fickle currency around the world, and in our lives. Ideally, we should be living with an abundant trust account, not a bankrupt one. Unfortunately, we have all grown up in a fear-dominated society where trust has been broken at a fundamental level. And the greatest loss of trust (and heart) has been in ourselves as humans, individually and collectively. Deep down we all believe ourselves to be despicable, sinful, and unworthy of this gift called life. As a result, it’s been like a self-fulfilling prophecy, which headline news confirms every day – GENOCIDE, FEMICIDE, HOMOCIDE & SUICIDE.

And so, the challenge is clear – we need to fundamentally change the way we see ourselves – as trustworthy. What has been driving the mayhem and madness of human behavior for the past 4000 years is the lie that we are inherently bad. When we finally stop all our busyness (Covid-19 gave us the opportunity), which is a classic defense mechanism to keep us feeling better about ourselves, we will come to realize the truth that we are in fact awesome and amazing creatures. Each one of us finds ourselves at the cutting edge of evolutionary history, the latest and greatest version of a species called Homo-Sapiens, based upon billions of years of painstaking natural selection. If you want to see a miracle, look in the mirror. The probability of you being here is incredibly small but you are, and I would suggest this is the magic of reality, worthy of both your gratitude and excitement.

Something we all have in common, despite our cultural divisions, is our human nature. We have the same bodies, emotions, thoughts, and souls or sacredness. For me, sacred means having inherent value, deserving of acknowledgement, consideration, and respect, and should include the entire environment upon which we depend. When we finally start to open our eyes to the extraordinary wonder of the life-force within everything, and learn how to nurture our own evolving natures, I am confident that our trust accounts will grow. By starting within you, trust – the firm belief in the reliability, truth, and ability of your own nature, your emerging high value currency will extend outwards to the entire universe, as it rightfully should.
